Primary 1 Dance Presentation

Every Thursday, from 1.50-3.50 p.m., Denise stays in school for Programme for Active Learning (PAL). This program exposes the child to various activities like different type of dance or sports. It will prepare them as they choose their CCA later.

Term 3, Denise did dance. After learning the different types of dance, parents were invited to attend a Dance Presentation by the students.

Parents started streaming in at 8.30a.m. Finally we were ushered into the hall at 8.45a.m. I spotted Denise!

The day before, she refused to show us the dance. It was supposed to be a secret! But she told us that she will be standing in front; leading the class :) They did a jazz dance; accompanied by a song from Camp Rock. Her teachers commented that she was very good. I fall short in telling them that she already had a few public performance under her belt :0 Thanks to exposure from CHC Children's Church and Pat's Schoolhouse!

National Day Performance

The School was a sea of red when we arrived in the morning. Debbie was super sticky to me and I was worried that she was not going to perform. But when it was her class' turn to go on stage, she was all ready!

Some people say that she looks like her teacher Ms Mayce :)

Debbie's all-time favourite activity is face-painting. As usual, Ms Serene makes sure she leaves a "print" on her face :)

After the carnival, we were invited to their class to view their Art and Craft.

The teachers also led us in some games. It was a time of curriculum introduction. We enjoyed ourselves and thanks to all the teachers for making this celebration a fun one!

Happy 45th National Day!

On our way to Raffles City, Denise asked if we can bring them to Esplanade. So after shopping at Raffles City, we walked to Esplanade via CityLink. On the way, we saw some interesting wall murals and the children had fun posing :)

After dinner at Ichiban Boshi, we sat outdoor and enjoyed a live performance by a Singapore 60's band. Didn't who they were, but the 50s-60s yr old uncles were good!

Last but not least, Happy Birthday Singapore! I pray for righteous government and happiness, peace and prosperity in this nation :)

Happy 9th Wedding Anniversary!

9 years and 2 kids later... JX still knows me the best :) I LOVE the Thomas Sabo watch that he chose for me. And he added a heart-shaped charm to my collection.

I am already looking forward to our 10th; Australia, here we come!

Shopping 101

Denise is learning to tell time and we decided to buy her a "real and serious" watch. Brought her to Swatch and she chose one named "Adventure Girl". It comes in a bag containing a torch light, a keychain, a compass, a pen and notepad. Suggested a digital one for easy-reading but she insisted that she must learn how to read an analog one.

Debbie wanted to buy something too. She had wanted to buy a Flik Flak watch that comes in a musical box. However, knowing that she would probably "waste" the watch, we decided to buy her a musical box instead. This was what she chose from Precious Thoughts.

K ki - Fine Pastries

Recently visited a couple friend's cafe at Ann Siang Hill - K Ki. One side of the cafe sells pastry and the other side is The Little Drom Store that sells whimsical, vintage little knick knacks.

The uniqueness of this cafe lies in the fact that the pastry chef is self-taught! Husband Kenneth has never attended any formal training but his baking skills is simply heavenly! It might be a little pricey but the details they put into the presentation and packaging is worth the every cent you pay for the cakes :)

The cakes look "too pretty" to be eaten. I bought the Kinabaru - coconut mousse, passionfruit creme and lychee mousse, Cafe Dumo - the one shaped like a dome, flourless chocolate cake, cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake.

If you are looking for a quiet place with good pastries and a nice cup of coffee, do visit K Ki and be wowed by the food and warm service! Have a nice chat with Wife Delphine, she will take time to explain every creation to you!

Singapore Food Festival 2010

Debbie @ Clarke Quay

Brought the children to the Singapore Food Festival. The theme was Discover the treasures of Singapore Chinese Dialect food. There were many other activities like enjoying mouth-watering bites served in a tingkat (food carrier) from different Singapore Chinese dialects on a boat while you take a relaxing cruise along the Singapore River.

We walked down the Food Street and couldn't resist munching on kueh tu-tu, local and peranakan kueh and kong ba bao from Westlake... Yum Yum!

Promised Denise that we will go back again for River Cruise. Maybe National Day, my birthday, or September school holiday...:)

Art Garden: Children's Season @ Singapore Art Museum

The Singapore Art Museum hosted its inaugural Children's Season. Young people were introduced to contemporary art in an interactive, supportive and fun family environment. The entire SAM at 8 Queen Street building was transformed into magical art gardens showcasing artist projects and artworks inspired by nature. Selected for their imagination and interactivity, these displays were accompanied with captions to engage young visitors with the art works. Activity sheets inspired by the art works enhanced the children's learning experience. Young visitors can also participate in a series of artists' workshops and enjoy short film screenings.

Last Friday, I brought Densie and Debbie there. In line with Night Festival 2010, from 7.30pm till the wee hours of 2am, all the Museums in Singapore were open for free admission.

The kids had a lot of fun playing with their friends from W30. Colouring, short film screenings, art and crafts and simply running around... :)

I Won A Bobbi Brown Hamper!

Received an email from Women's Weekly last Monday. Thinking that it was another advertorial letter, I ignored it. This week when I was clearing my mailbox, I decided to download the content. To my surprise, I won for myself a Bobbi Brown hamper worth $250 in a SMS contest. Hmm... I only read Women's Weekly when I am in a salon or waiting in some clinics. Honestly, I vaguely remember joining a contest.

Debbie's 3rd Birthday

We had a simple celebration for Debbie in school. Just watched Toy Story 3 and she requested for a Toy Story cake. So we ordered an ice-cream cake from Swensens.

Had simple cake-cutting session during lunch time. Gave out goodies-bags to the children and that's it! :)

Went to Sakae Sushi for lunch on Saturday. We asked her to order whatever she wanted. She chose a Fire Engine Kids Meal.

After lunch, we brought her to buy her birthday present. She chose a Wooden Alphabet Set from Mothercare. During the week, she also received presents from our friends! Thanks for loving our little Debbie!

Sold our 1.5 year old Sony Cybershot on Ebay. Decided that it is too bulky for me; I rather take pictures with my BB instead. The pictures were also not fantastic (sorry to Sony fans).

Visited John 3:16 Photo Supplies last week and was extremely satisfied with their customer service. Shop was crowded with customers and many returning ones. The owner Sam, addressed many by names and gave useful tips and recommendation to the customers.

I wanted something compact which I can also just pick and shoot. Excellent pictures, especially when it comes to moving children :)

Finally.... TA-DA! We bought a Canon Powershot S90. I must say, I am very happy with the buy. Even my children can take sharp pictures with this camera! Just celebrated Debbie's 3rd birthday. Will post the pictures later.

June Holidays

June not only marks the beginning of school holidays, but also the end of our 2 years relationship with our Indo helper, Lena. To cut the long story short, she decided not to come back after her 2 weeks home passage leave. Within a short period, we got another helper, a Filipino this time. So far so good, thank God the children are older and close to me. No problem transiting to a new maid...:)

Week 1 of school hols, maidless... Staff were given 1 week of break after AC2010 :) Brought the kids to Universal Studio! Woohoo!!!




It was a HOT HOT day... We did not manage to visit all the rides and attractions but it was enough to last us one full day.

Week 2 of school holidays, maidless. Denise attended a 5-days Discovery Vacation Camp - Learn Science The Fun Way. Dropped her off at RGPS, the campsite, at 9am and picked her at 5pm everyday. That basically occupied her for Week 2.

Week 3 of school holidays, maidless. Spent the week at Costa Sands Resort - Pasir Ris. It was a crazy week. Itinerary was packed with eXplorerkid, Wild Wild Wet and 2 BBQ sessions...

We invited Adrian and Sharon for BBQ :) A friend recommended BBQ stuff from MMMM - Meats, Marinates & Much More. The food turned out to be yummy!!! You can either walk-in or call in 2 days in advance to order.

Week 4; new maid came and Debbie gave us a HFMD scare! Thank God she turned out fine. Brought the kids to Toy Story 3. Fantastic show; a MUST-watch :) It really teaches the children to appreciate their toys. Better still, the story teaches us to stay together during challenges; "No Toy Gets Left Behind".

School reopens today. Managed to put them in bed early and the morning routine was easy! Back to my early morning shift...:)

HFMD???

Yesterday I was called up by school to pick Debbie because she was having a fever. Temperature shot from 37.7 to 38.6...

Today, the fever is gone but I had to keep her at home for another day. Guess what? Found a few white spots in her mouth...:( Not sure if they are symptoms of HFMD... So far, only 1 red spot on her palm...:( Also not sure if it is another symptom...

Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed that it is nothing serious!

Building Relationships

Recently I read an interesting article about parenting teens...

There are times in every family when rules and restrictions must be imposed, even during the teen years. But let me make this point emphatically. Rules without relationship lead to rebellion.

Family psychologist and author Dr Kevin Leman tells of the time he had to leave on a trip just a day or two before Valentine's Day. His wife, Sandy, remarked over the phone that their teenage daughter had received a letter of acceptance from the university she wanted to attend. Dr Leman decided that this event was worth some extra attention. He called a florist and ordered a dozen pink sweetheart roses for his daughter. The next evening when he called home, his daughter got on the phone to thank him from the bottom of her heart.

She said, "When I saw the delivery man at the door, I knew the flowers had to be for Mum, on Valentine's Day. But then I saw my own name on them and thought, my goodness, they must be from my boyfriend. But, Daddy, they were from you. And that was even better."

If you have teens, take time to build relationships in every way you can. Go to their games, their school open-houses. And you might think about flowers for your daughters. That expression of love will come back to you in a hundred ways, especially the next time you have to say "no" to a disappointed teen.

Get involved and be interested in our children's live. I used to ask Denise not to waste money and do not call me unnecessarily during recess-time. However, I realised that if I do not appreciate such gestures now, there will come a time where she will stop calling me. And I will be wondering who she is calling then :p

This applies to discipleship too! Rules without relationship will lead to rebellion. My mentor told me, "If I have a relationship with you, you will thank me when I correct you. But if we do not have a relationship, you will feel offended if I correct you."

A Nice Day

A Day At St. Regis

A friend bought us a One Night stay at St Regis, complete with $160 dining credits :) It was a "no holds bar" day... We decided to eat anything we want and let the children buy anything they want, no budget :) After checkin, we had lunch at Hard Rock and brought the children to Toy R Us to choose their toys :)

The children went home in the evening but they joined us again the following morning for breakfast at the Brasserie Les Saveurs. Illuminated by the splendid wall of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the tropical gardens and sparkling pools, Brasserie Les Saveurs exudes classic European elegance.

Trip To The Istana

On May 1, we brought the kids to the Istana. Entrance to the Istana is free for Singapore Residents. For $2 per person, we get to tour the ground level of the Istana Building. Visitors to the Istana Building can also view a special display of selected gifts presented to the President and the Prime Minister. The most unforgettable moment is to have photos taken with President and Mrs Nathan when they come by to greet visitors. However, we left before they came to greet visitors.

I was very excited as it was mine and the children's 1st visit to the Istana. When JX was in SAS, he performed with his school band during one of the Open House.


There was even a playground corner for children. It was definitely a trip worth making for Singaporeans; but once in a lifetime unless they renovate the place.

The next Open House is on 8th August, 2010, if you are interested. Go early; the weather gets hotter and the crowd builds up at noon.
